Private Equipment Damage & Loss

Norfolk Southern accepts claims for damages or loss to private intermodal containers, trailers, and chassis when the damage occurs while the equipment is in Norfolk Southern’s possession and as defined by the AAR Intermodal Interchange Rules Job Code Matrix. Submit claims using the Intermodal Maintenance & Repair System (IMRS).  

 

Section 9 of the Norfolk Southern Intermodal Rules Circular offers additional detail about what to do if your equipment is damaged, including the information you’ll need to provide when you submit a claim.

Rail controlled containers are those that start with EMHU, TMXU, or UPHU. 
 

Rail controlled chassis are those that start with NSPZ, NSFZ, TSNZ, NSXZ, TSFZ, TSXZ, LSFZ, LSXZ, DDGZ, DDRZ, DDTZ, or UPHZ.
