Hurricane Milton

ATLANTA, GA

Norfolk Southern is monitoring and preparing for the impact of Hurricane Milton. The storm continues to intensify two days before it’s due to strike Florida’s Gulf Coast and was last reported to have reached a Category 5. Milton is likely to be a large and powerful hurricane when it makes landfall in Florida on Wednesday, October 9. Florida has issued a state of emergency and hurricane, storm surge, and flood watches for several counties in its path.

Currently, there are no impacted service areas and Norfolk Southern is operating as scheduled. However, we expect high winds and heavy rains could impact rail operations in Northern Florida as the storm moves through. Based on these projections, action may be required to manage shipment volumes originating at, and destined to, Florida locations as the storm nears landfall.

It is strongly recommended that customers make every attempt to timely outgate shipments from the Jacksonville Intermodal Facility in advance of the storm. Outgating shipments will greatly aid in any recovery that may be required following the passing of the storm.

If you have questions on shipments, please contact Intermodal Customer Logistics at ics@nscorp.com. Additional updates will be provided as information is made available.
