Flooding in Southern West Virginia

ATLANTA, GA

Last night heavy rainfall created flash flooding throughout southern West Virginia. The flooding is impacting the Heartland Corridor, and the route between Portsmouth, OH and Bluefield, WV is currently impassible. Shipments billed for movement in the following lanes are being impacted:

  • Norfolk/Ports of Virginia <> Chicago
  • Norfolk/Ports of Virginia <> Columbus
  • Norfolk/Ports of Virginia <> Cincinnati
  • Norfolk/Ports of Virginia <> Livernois
  • Chicago <> Charlotte
  • Chicago <> Greensboro

Weather forecasts indicate rainfall is expected to continue in the impacted areas through this afternoon and will transition to snowfall later this evening. We are actively exploring detour options to minimize shipment transit delay; however, customers should expect delays until the flooding subsides and our Engineering team returns the route to service.
