Claes Oldenburg is a Swedish-born American sculptor, best known for his public art installations typically featuring large replicas of everyday objects. The work for which Oldenburg is best known is soft sculptures. Like other artists of the Pop-art movement, he chose as his subjects the banal products of consumer life with close human association such as bathtubs, typewriters, light switches, and electric fans. Many of his works were made in collaboration with his wife of 32 years, Coosje van Bruggen.
