Connecting Chicago's future leaders to careers in rail
Future leaders recently got a firsthand look at careers in transportation when Norfolk Southern welcomed participants from the Always Giving Back Foundation's 2026 Summer Business Cohort to Calumet Yard.
Throughout the day, students from across Chicago connected with NS employees, explored career opportunities in the railroad industry, and learned how rail helps connect communities and strengthen the economy.
A day of learning and leadership
Founded to help break cycles of poverty and increase economic mobility, the Always Giving Back Foundation provides mentorship, educational opportunities, and professional experiences that empower young people to become future community leaders.
During the visit, NS employees shared their career journeys and perspectives, helping participants envision future careers in transportation and beyond. The visit also featured:
- Presentations from Summer Business Cohort participants
- Career development and networking opportunities
- A guided tour of Calumet Yard
